The project

H2otel Congress & Medical Spa, part of the Natura IMB Hotels group, is a hotel in Unhais da Serra, in the Serra da Estrela mountains. It includes the Aquadome, a spa and thermal baths area with indoor and outdoor thermal water pools. The pool is considered the hotel's signature feature and one of the spaces guests use most.

The challenge

The hotel already had composite decking from another brand, which had not lived up to expectations. For the new installation, the space called for attention to three points:

Levels and geometry

The existing level differences around the pool had to be removed, taking into account the geometry of the space itself.

Demanding conditions

Indoors, the pools have high levels of humidity and temperature. Outdoors, the suite terraces are exposed to wide temperature swings.

Fast, clean works

With the pool so important to the hotel, the installation had to be fast and clean.

The solution

CDECK® composite decking was installed on a self-supporting aluminium structure. Solid boards were used around the indoor pools and hollow boards on the suite terraces, to cope with both the humidity of the indoor areas and the mountain climate.

The result

Since 2023, the indoor and spa pools and the suite terraces at the H2otel have had 300 m² of CDECK® composite decking. A result that proved not all composites are the same.
