POOL DECKING

Why choosing the right pool decking matters

The area surrounding a swimming pool is one of the most demanding outdoor surfaces: it is permanently exposed to water, chlorine or salt, intense sunlight and constant barefoot traffic. Pool decking must be, above all, slip-resistant, moisture-proof, comfortable underfoot and easy to maintain.

Building regulations in most countries require outdoor surfaces adjacent to swimming pools to meet specific slip-resistance standards — in both public spaces (hotels, resorts, water parks) and private residences. This makes the choice of material a technical decision, not just an aesthetic one.

There are several options for pool surrounds — natural wood, ceramic and composite — each with different characteristics, costs and maintenance requirements.

Compare all three materials in our guide: What is the best pool decking?

On this page, we present CDECK® composite decking as a solution for your pool — including technical specifications, available ranges, real projects and answers to the most common questions.

THE SOLUTION

CDECK® composite decking: the solution for swimming pools

CDECK is an outdoor surface manufactured in Portugal by IHT, the result of years of research into high-performance composite materials. It combines wood fibres with polymers, delivering the aesthetics of natural wood with superior durability and minimal maintenance.

Certified slip-resistant — Class 3¹

Rated Class 3 under EN 15534 — the highest classification. Verified by pendulum test (CEN/TS 15676). Ensures grip even on wet surfaces around the pool.

Resistant to water, chlorine and salt

Suitable for chlorinated and saltwater pools. Does not rot and is not attacked by fungi, insects or termites. Maintains structural integrity under constant moisture exposure.

Comfortable barefoot

Surface free from splinters, knots and visible screws. Unlike natural wood, does not develop cracks or splinters over time. Smooth and comfortable throughout its entire service life.

Minimal maintenance

No varnishes, paints or oils required. Simply wash with water and a neutral detergent. Particularly convenient poolside (chlorine splashes, sunscreen, debris).

Durability and longevity

Resistant to decomposition, rot, discolouration and insects. Estimated service life exceeding 30 years. Warranty up to 25 years.

Fast installation — Quick-Fix®

Patented system with just 1 screw per board. Up to 3× faster2. The Quick-Fix PRO Clip allows individual boards to be lifted for access to pool pumps, skimmers, inspection chambers and pipework — without dismantling the entire deck.

¹Slip resistance: Compliant — Class 3 (EN 15534). Declaration of Performance: CDECK Original | CDECK WUUDE

2Result observed in an internal installation test (1 installer), on a test module of approx. 3 m², on a drillable cement base, comparing the Quick-Fix® system (1 screw per board) with a traditional clip fixing system. Times may vary depending on the base, cuts and site conditions.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Common questions about pool decking

Yes. CDECK is suitable for pool environments, including chlorinated and saltwater systems. The material is moisture-resistant and does not rot. As with any outdoor surface, prolonged contact with concentrated chemicals should be avoided.

Yes. CDECK holds a Class 3 slip-resistance rating (EN 15534) — the highest classification — ensuring grip even on wet surfaces. The surface is free from splinters, knots and visible screws, providing safety and comfort for children and adults walking barefoot.

Like any outdoor surface, CDECK warms up when exposed to sunlight. Lighter colours absorb less heat than darker ones. Hollow boards tend to stay cooler than solid boards, as they allow internal ventilation. Compared to natural wood of a similar colour, the temperature difference to the touch is very slight and, in practice, barely noticeable. For pool areas with high sun exposure, lighter colours such as Beech Beige, Nordic Oak or Rose Beige are the most comfortable.

The cost of pool decking varies depending on the range chosen, board type, installation method, total area and project complexity. Indicative prices per board start at €19.07 for the CDECK Original hollow board and €20.21 for the CDECK WUUDE. CDECK holds a Class 3 slip-resistance rating under the European standard EN 15534 — the highest class. This is verified by pendulum test (CEN/TS 15676) and declared in the product’s Declaration of Performance.

CDECK has an estimated service life exceeding 30 years under recommended use and maintenance conditions, with a warranty of up to 25 years. See the applicable warranty conditions.

Yes. CDECK can be installed on various base types around the pool:

    • On a concrete slab, pool coping or existing surface — where the surface is level and can be drilled into.
    • On surfaces with level changes or irregularities —where the base can be drilled but the joists do not sit fully flush with the ground.
    • On waterproof membranes or surfaces that cannot be drilled —using a self-supporting cross-braced structure, which also allows the deck height to be raised.

Maintenance is straightforward: regular cleaning with water and a neutral detergent is all that is needed. A pressure washer may be used at a distance of 30 cm, with a maximum pressure of 150 bar and a wide fan nozzle, always working along the length of the boards.
