Residential development in Barreiro (Setúbal), with accessible roof decks whose slab had trenches with sharp changes in level and services that had to stay accessible: filling it with concrete was impossible.
Nooba is a large-scale residential development in Barreiro, on the south bank of the Tagus, developed by Solid Sentinel and designed by Saraiva+Associados. With its 197 apartments, it is among the largest residential projects in the Lisbon metropolitan area. The buildings include accessible roof decks with a pool, a 100-metre panoramic athletics track looking out over the Tagus, a 230 m² lounge area and a 430 m² garden.
On the roof decks around the pools, the construction constraints ruled out a conventional installation:
The slab had trenches with pronounced variations in level, crossed by an extensive network of services. Filling them with concrete was ruled out: the weight would have been excessive, and access to the services for future maintenance would have been compromised.
The areas around the pool and the athletics track called for precise cutting and adjustment, to follow the curved shapes of the space.
CDECK® was not in the original specification, which called for another brand. What prompted the switch was the better balance between price, material quality and the ability to answer the construction complexity of the project.
CDECK® composite boards therefore won out for these areas: a slip-resistant surface, chlorine resistant and comfortable to walk on barefoot, with the bespoke finish a project of this size demands.
The answer for the trenches was a structure bearing on concrete pads, carrying aluminium joists that create a level plane above the trenches while keeping the services accessible for maintenance. The Quick-Fix® system makes that permanent: the boards can be lifted out one at a time, without dismantling the surface.

A surface that stays serviceable and functional, with the visual precision expected of a landmark project in the Lisbon metropolitan area. All of it with a warranty of up to 25 years.
