The project

Nooba is a large-scale residential development in Barreiro, on the south bank of the Tagus, promoted by Solid Sentinel and designed by Saraiva+Associados. With 197 apartments, it is one of the largest residential projects in Greater Lisbon. The buildings include rooftops with swimming pools, a 100-metre panoramic running track overlooking the River Tagus, a 230 m² leisure area and a 430 m² garden.

The challenge

On the rooftops surrounding the swimming pools, the construction constraints made a conventional installation impossible:

Major level changes with exposed pipework

The slab had service voids with steep variations in level, through which a large amount of pipework ran. Filling them with concrete was out of the question: the weight would have been excessive and access to the pipework for future maintenance would have been compromised.

Curved, meticulous finishes

The areas around the swimming pool and running track required precise cuts and fittings to follow the curved shapes of the space.

The solution

CDECK® was not in the original specification. The tender documents called for another brand — but the better balance between price, material quality and ability to handle the project's construction complexity led to the substitution.

CDECK® composite decking was therefore the solution chosen for these areas: a slip-resistant, chlorine-resistant surface that is comfortable under bare feet — with the bespoke finish that a project of this scale demands.

The solution for the service voids was a substructure supported on concrete pillars, on which aluminium profiles and supports rest, creating a level surface above the voids — while keeping the pipework accessible for maintenance. The Quick-Fix® system guarantees this at all times: the boards can be removed individually, without dismantling the floor.

Grey CDECK Original® composite boards laid on supports, ready to edge the rooftop pool.

The result

The result is 459 m² of composite decking on the rooftops of Nooba — a raised structure over service voids with pipework, with curved finishes following the lines of the swimming pool and running track. An accessible, functional surface with the aesthetic precision of a landmark project in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. With a warranty of up to 25 years.
