The project

Nomad Bay is a luxury residential resort in Carvoeiro, in the Algarve, developed by Nomad Capital and designed by Concept Architects. The development comprises 74 apartments across 2 floors, with panoramic sea views, less than 1 km from Carvoeiro beach, within a gated community.

The challenge

Nomad Bay's outdoor spaces include swimming pools, rooftop areas, landscaped gardens, a restaurant and a bar, all designed for intensive use by residents and their guests. It was precisely on the rooftops surrounding the prefabricated swimming pools that CDECK® composite decking was specified: a surface that had to be slip-resistant, withstand constant contact with water and chlorine, feel comfortable under bare feet and offer an aesthetic worthy of a project of this scale.

These areas presented three constraints that made a conventional installation impossible:

Non-drillable base

The slab had existing infrastructure underneath. Any drilling would have compromised these installations.

Multiple level changes and slopes

The base was uneven, with variations in height across several areas of the rooftop. The decking had to be raised and levelled at every point.

Accessible pipework

The pipe network beneath the slab had to be preserved and remain accessible for future maintenance.

The solution

The project's specification originally called for another decking brand. However, the construction company opted for CDECK® for its balance between price and its ability to handle the complexity of the installation — in particular, the possibility of installing the decking raised, with slopes, without fixing it to the slab.

The installation used a cross-braced substructure of height-adjustable aluminium supports and tubes, resting directly on the existing base, with no drilling and no additional building work. The adjustable height at each support point made it possible to compensate for the level changes and create a level surface throughout. The boards can be opened and removed individually, ensuring permanent access to the pipework and the infrastructure underneath — without dismantling the structure.

The result

The result is 532.5 m² of outdoor space, elegant and functional, on the rooftops of Nomad Bay — worthy of a luxury resort in the Algarve and built to last, with a warranty of up to 25 years.
