At this luxury residential resort in Carvoeiro, Algarve, the rooftop terraces surrounding the prefabricated swimming pools presented a real technical challenge: a base that could not be drilled, multiple level changes and pipework that had to remain permanently accessible.
Nomad Bay is a luxury residential resort in Carvoeiro, Algarve, developed by Nomad Capital and designed by Concept Architects. The development comprises 74 apartments across two levels, with panoramic sea views, less than one kilometre from Carvoeiro beach, within a private gated estate.
Nomad Bay's outdoor areas include swimming pools, rooftop terraces, landscaped gardens, a restaurant and a bar, all designed for intensive use by residents and their guests. CDECK® composite decking was specified for the rooftop terraces surrounding the prefabricated swimming pools, where the surface needed to be slip-resistant, able to withstand constant exposure to water and chlorine, comfortable under bare feet and visually suited to a project of this standard.
These areas presented three constraints that ruled out a conventional installation:
Existing infrastructure was located beneath the slab. Any drilling could have compromised these installations.
The base was uneven, with variations in height across several areas of the rooftop terrace. The decking therefore had to be raised and levelled individually at each point.
The network beneath the slab had to be protected while remaining accessible for future maintenance.
The original specification called for a different decking brand. However, the construction company opted for CDECK® because of the balance between cost and its ability to meet the technical demands of the installation, particularly the possibility of creating a raised deck over sloping surfaces, without fixing into the slab.
The installation used a cross-braced substructure with adjustable pedestals and aluminium profiles, positioned directly on the existing base without drilling or additional construction work. The adjustable height at each support point made it possible to compensate for the varying levels and create a level finished surface throughout. Individual boards can also be opened and removed one by one, providing permanent access to the pipework and infrastructure below without dismantling the substructure.
The result is 532.5 m² of elegant, practical outdoor space across Nomad Bay's rooftop terraces, suited to a luxury resort in the Algarve and designed for long-term use, with a warranty of up to 25 years.
