The Project

Nomad Bay is a luxury residential resort in Carvoeiro, in the Algarve, developed by Nomad Capital and designed by Concept Architects. The development comprises 74 apartments spread across 2 floors, with panoramic sea views, less than 1 km from Praia do Carvoeiro, within a gated community.

The Challenge

The outdoor spaces at Nomad Bay include swimming pools, rooftop areas, landscaped gardens, a restaurant and a bar — spaces designed for intensive use by residents and their guests. It was precisely on the rooftops surrounding the prefabricated pools that CDECK® composite decking was specified: a surface that needed to be anti-slip, resistant to permanent contact with water and chlorine, comfortable to walk on barefoot — and with an aesthetic befitting a development of this scale.

These areas presented three constraints that made conventional installation impossible:

01

Non-drillable base

The slab had existing infrastructure underneath. Any drilling would compromise the installations.

02

Multiple level changes and slopes

The base was uneven, with variations in height across different sections of the rooftop. The decking needed to be raised and levelled at every point.

03

Accessible pipework

The pipework network beneath the slab had to be preserved and remain accessible for future maintenance.

The Solution

The project originally specified a different decking brand in the tender documents. However, the contractor chose CDECK® for its combination of price and capacity to meet the complexity of the installation — namely the ability to install the decking raised, on slopes, without fixing to the slab.

Installation was carried out using a crossed supporting structure of adjustable-height aluminium tubes, placed directly on the existing base with no drilling or additional groundwork. The adjustable height at each support point allowed the level changes to be compensated, creating an even surface across the entire area. The boards can be individually lifted and removed, ensuring permanent access to the pipework and infrastructure below — without dismantling the structure.

The Result

The installation was carried out by QuatroQuadrado, with precision and attention to detail. The result is 532.5 m² of elegant and functional outdoor space across the rooftops of Nomad Bay — worthy of a luxury Algarve resort and built to last, with a warranty of up to 25 years.
