Five-star hotel on Meia Praia beach in Lagos, refurbished in two phases: around 1,100 m² of timber decking replaced with CDECK® on the pool decks and in the dining areas in 2019, and 746 m² on the suite balconies in 2023, for a total of some 1,846 m² of composite decking.
The Iberostar Selection Lagos Algarve is a five-star beachfront hotel on Meia Praia, in Lagos, one of the best-known stretches of coast in the Algarve. The hotel has generous outdoor areas, with pools and lounge areas open all year round, designed to give guests an exceptional stay.
The hotel's outdoor areas — the surrounds of the two pools, the lounge and dining areas and the suite balconies — were finished in natural timber. Over time, that solution began to show its limits:
Heavy daily use, salt and UV exposure led to colour loss, splintering and visible deterioration of the timber over the years.
Repeated treatments and repairs meant ongoing costs, and work that got in the way of running a hotel that never closes.
CDECK® composite decking was installed in two phases, in 2019 for the pool and dining areas and in 2023 for the suite balconies, keeping the same visual identity across the whole of the hotel's outdoor space.
Phase 1 · Pools and dining areas
Around 1,100 m² of timber replaced around the two outdoor pools and in the lounge and dining areas. The installation combined hollow and solid boards, matching the solution to the conditions of each area.
Phase 2 · Suite balconies
Four years later, the hotel chose CDECK® again for the suite balconies, for an exact match with the 1,100 m² already in place. A further 746 m² went in, in hollow boards, combining two Quick-Fix® structures: Type II with aluminium joists, and Type III with a cross-laid structure and no pedestals.
Since 2019, and reinforced in 2023, the Iberostar's outdoor areas add up to some 1,846 m² of CDECK® decking, from the pool decks to the suite balconies, reading as one continuous, uniform surface. A surface built for the daily footfall of a five-star hotel in a coastal setting, with no sanding, no varnishing and no work that interrupts operations: a regular wash is all it takes.
More than the scale, what defines this case is the continuity. A hotel that chose CDECK®, saw how it performed over four years, and came back to the same solution for a new phase.
