A 5-star resort on Meia Praia beach in Lagos, completed in two phases: around 1,100 m² of timber decking was replaced with CDECK® around the pools and dining areas in 2019, followed by 746 m² on the suite balconies in 2023 — bringing the total to nearly 1,846 m² of composite decking.
Iberostar Selection Lagos Algarve is a 5-star beachfront resort on Meia Praia in Lagos, one of the Algarve's best-known coastal destinations. The hotel has extensive outdoor areas, swimming pools and relaxation spaces used throughout the year, all designed to provide a high-quality guest experience.
The hotel's outdoor areas — around the two swimming pools, the relaxation and dining areas, and the suite balconies — were originally finished in natural timber. Over time, this solution began to show its limitations:
Heavy daily use, salt exposure and strong sunlight led to colour loss, splintering and visible deterioration of the timber over time.
Repeated treatments and repairs created continuing costs and required interventions that disrupted the operation of a hotel open all year round.
CDECK® composite decking was selected for both phases — in 2019 for the pool and dining areas, and again in 2023 for the suite balconies — maintaining the same visual identity throughout the hotel's outdoor spaces.
Phase 1 — Pools and dining areas
Around 1,100 m² of timber was replaced around the two outdoor pools and across the relaxation and dining areas. The installation combined hollow and solid boards, adapting the solution to the requirements of each area.
Phase 2 — Suite balconies
Four years later, the hotel chose CDECK® again for the suite balconies, ensuring a consistent finish with the 1,100 m² already installed. A further 746 m² of hollow boards was fitted using two Quick-Fix® substructure types (Type II with aluminium supports and Type III with a cross-braced structure without pedestals).
Since 2019, with the second phase completed in 2023, Iberostar's outdoor areas have grown to nearly 1,846 m² of CDECK® decking — from the pools to the suite balconies, with a consistent and unified finish throughout. Designed for the daily footfall of a 5-star hotel in a coastal environment, it requires no sanding, varnishing or maintenance work that disrupts hotel operations: regular washing is enough.
More than its scale, this project stands out for its continuity. The hotel chose CDECK®, saw how it performed over four years, and then selected the same solution again for a new phase.
