On the Troia peninsula, south of Lisbon, around 1,000 m² of timber decking was replaced with CDECK Original® composite decking around the pool and in the adjoining areas.
The Anchor Troia, formerly Aqualuz Troia, is a hotel on the Troia peninsula, between the Atlantic and the Serra da Arrábida, south of Lisbon. It brings together fully equipped apartments and studios across two buildings, Sea and River, designed for flexible short and medium stays. With direct access to the beach and the marina close by, it combines the feel of a resort hotel with the independence of self-catering accommodation: pool, spa, dining and lounge areas.
The hotel's outdoor areas, in particular the surrounds of the pool and the lounge areas, were finished in natural timber. Over time, that solution came to show serious limitations.
Constant exposure to damp, sun and the salt air of the Troia peninsula had caused warping, loss of stability and visible deterioration of the timber.
The frequency of repairs and treatments was undermining how well the solution worked and how much of the time the areas were available, in a hotel that never closes.
CDECK® composite decking was chosen to replace the roughly 1,000 m² of existing timber, answering the need for a solution that was more durable, more stable and suited both to the marine environment and to the heavy use the site sees.
The installation was built on a self-supporting cross-laid structure of height-adjustable aluminium joists and tubes, laid directly on the existing base, with no structural work to the slab.
One distinctive feature of the project was the manufacture of bespoke boards, 3 metres long, combining both available profiles, hollow and solid, in a single installation to meet the demands of each area.
Since 2020, the outdoor areas at The Anchor Troia have had around 1,000 m² of CDECK® decking: a continuous, stable surface, ready for the marine setting and the heavy use of the hotel. No maintenance work interrupts operations: a regular wash is all it takes.
